To see and hear Maurice Johnson play is truly an awe-inspiring event. This self-taught guitar master is an accomplished touring artist as well one of the funkiest guitar players on the scene. The master musician's motto is "Speak softly and sling a big axe," he laughs. Maurice brings great vocals and a dominating presence to the stage rivaled only by his center-stage partner in crime Leapin' Leon. Leon is ultra fond and protective of the me-generation axe-slinger Maurice and describes him as being an "introverted-extrovert." Says Leon, "You can tell how Maurice is feeling on any given night just by the way he tunes his guitar. And when Maurice speaks let me tell you MAURICE SPEAKS! He is a human jukebox that can literally play anything."
The dynamic duo of Jivin' Johnson and Leapin' Leon is reminiscent of the great supergroups of their genre. Jivin' Johnson prowls the stage while hammering and picking sonic Sturm und Drang. Paradoxically his bright round eyes are seemingly harmless and he exudes pseudo-shyness. However, he has been known to be quite the lady charmer as the band consummates the evening. "After all" he states with a smirk, "There should be a little bit of The Disco Kings in all of us." Well said, Maurice.
